The problem

When the tap stops, what will you drink?

Water cuts happen more often than you think. Most last a few hours, some last days. Either way, the first 72 hours are on you.

Burst main

A broken pipe can cut the supply to whole streets while repairs are made.

Boil-water notice

If the supply is contaminated, tap water may be unsafe to drink until the notice is lifted.

Flooding

Floods can damage treatment works and pipes, and floodwater itself is never safe to drink.

Power cut

Long power cuts can stop pumps and treatment works, and leave you without news.

The gap in most UK homes

of UK households have less than one day of drinking water at home.

The solution

Two simple things keep you drinking

The water carriers
Fill it at the tap, whenever you wantEmpty: folds flat like a pouch

1The water carriers

= Your water reserve

Fill them at the tap today and store them. On day 1 of a cut, your drinking water is already there: 3 litres per person per day, for 3, 7 or 21 days.

The filter straw
Drink straight from a stream, a lake or rainRemoves bacteria and impurities

2The filter straw

= For after

When the reserve runs out, drink water from a stream, a lake or rain through the straw. It removes bacteria and impurities (manufacturer data).

Day 1 → Day 3, 7 or 21

Stored water

Then: the filter straw

Folds flat

Empty, they fold flat. Fill them whenever you want.

Keep a whole stack of carriers in a drawer or on a shelf, and fill them at the tap when you need them: before a storm warning, during planned works, or today, to have them ready.

  • A 20 L carrier weighs about 300 g empty and folds flat like a pouch.
  • The 10 L carrier folds down small too.
  • Keep your first days filled and the rest folded: when the tap stops without warning, your reserve is already there.

The filter straw

Three ways to drink when the reserve runs out

Straight from a stream or a lake

01

Straight from a stream or a lake

Kneel down and drink through the straw: the water is filtered as you drink.

On a bottle

02

On a bottle

Fill a bottle, fit the straw on and drink. Handy at home.

With rainwater

03

With rainwater

Water from a water butt or a bucket of rain, filtered as you drink.

It does not make floodwater, seawater or chemically polluted water safe.

How to use it
  1. 1.Store: rinse the carriers, fill them with fresh tap water, close them tightly and keep them somewhere cool and dark.
  2. 2.Refresh: replace the stored water regularly (we suggest every 6 months), or as advised by your water company.
  3. 3.Filter: when the stored water runs out, or if the tap water can’t be trusted, drink fresh water through the filter straw.
  4. 4.Treat if in doubt: if water may be contaminated by sewage, filter it, then boil it or use purification tablets, as the official Be Ready advice recommends.
Good to know
  • Never drink floodwater, seawater or water that may contain fuel or chemicals: no personal filter makes it safe.
  • The filters do not remove viruses. Boil or disinfect water from a doubtful source after filtering it.
  • Once a filter has been used, protect it from freezing.
  • This kit follows the official advice but is not an official government product.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is this an official government kit?

No. Our kits follow the official Be Ready advice (3 litres of drinking water per person per day, for 3 days), but Be Prepared is an independent company, not affiliated with the UK Government.

Which kit should I choose?

Solo kits are for 1 person, Family kits for 4 people. Then choose 3 days (the official advice), 7 days or 21 days of stored water. Every kit also has a filter straw for when the stored water runs out.

What is the filter straw for?

For after. Once your stored water has run out, you drink fresh water from a stream, a lake or rain through the straw: it removes bacteria and impurities (manufacturer data). It does not make floodwater, seawater or chemically polluted water safe.

Do the carriers fold flat?

Yes. Empty, the 20 L carrier folds flat like a pouch and the 10 L carrier folds down small too: you can keep several in a drawer and fill them whenever you want.

What do the filters remove?

Bacteria and impurities, according to the manufacturer. They do not remove viruses, chemicals or salt. See our water guide.

When will my order arrive?

We prepare your order in 2–3 working days (up to 5 during peak season or very high demand), then it is delivered in 4–7 working days by tracked service. Most orders arrive within 10 working days.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

Not yet. We deliver to UK addresses only. France, Spain and Germany are coming soon: switch to French, Spanish or German to join those waitlists.

Can I return my kit?

Yes, within 14 days of delivery. For hygiene reasons, a filter that has been unsealed or used can only be returned if it is faulty. See our returns policy.

Fill your carriers today, put them away, and stop worrying about the tap.
